hi all,
yesterday a post about new Delta Chat developments was published --
feel free to ask or comment here on it ...
https://delta.chat/en/2019-05-08-xyiv
wrt Deltachat a lot of development on texts, on the web page, for
proposals, regarding translations, regarding sysadmin issues is done
with git. This XKCD wraps the "collness" of git: https://xkcd.com/1597/
In any case, we just created a #deltachat-git channel on freenode that
you can use for asking questions about git and "markdown",
an often used text format from which PDFs and web pages are generated.
Most people who joined there still have one trouble or another with git
themselves, mind you. Helpers welcome as well ;)
You can join the freenode #deltachat-git channel with this link:
https://kiwiirc.com/nextclient/#irc://irc.freenode.net/deltachat-git
that is if you don't have an "IRC" (Internet-Relay-Chat) client, another
wonderful retro protocol that survived 36 years of startups to replace it :)
cheers

Hey all,
Yesterday I solicited some feedback about delta chat from activist folks who do environmental work in Indonesia, but based in SF.
They think Delta is exciting and will help them immensely and want to use it for similar reasons as we have heard institutions want to.
Pros:
- use their choice of email server that they already pay for and support also for chat
- to more easily have encrypted email.
- Currently using WhatsApp which is fine but not ideal because it is not linked to their email accounts.
- they also thought the location streaming seemed useful in the field.
Caveats:
- of course iOS,
- a more clear UX around how encryption will break....
For example, from their words of what would make them feel good using delta chat instead of WhatsApp (which currently is always end to end encrypted and never falls back to plaintext):
if you are added to a group, they suggested that new users are presented with an "accept" or "reject", an "accept" will ensure that messages are encrypted by sending a system message to the group, but a "reject" will mean leaving the group, allowing messages in the group to be continue being sent encrypted.
Also, if you're about to send an unencrypted message, it should tell you before sending.
Thanks!

Sent from my Android device with K-9 Mail. Please excuse my brevity.
hi all,
as discussed around kyiv we are restarting the practise
of IRC sync meetings -- first date is tomorrow,
May 8th, Wednesday 9pm CEST (Berlin) on #deltachat
topics will probably be the various efforts to release stabilized
versions of Delta Chat on Android, iOS and Desktop platforms.
Sync meetings are less suited for in-depth discussions or decisions
which better happen outside. Usually we try to limit them to 30-45 minutes.
As during the last period of sync meetings i suggest everyone
who attends prepares three text fragments (LAST/NEXT/BLOCKERS).
LAST is what you worked on since you last appeared on a sync.
NEXT is what you are up to.
BLOCKERS are issues or questions complicating tackling NEXT.
cheers

Hello,
I've seen that you added the following string on Transifex to the
"website" project
"_"Die Einrichtung von Delta Chat könnte kaum einfacher sein [...]"_
could you please add a note with the english translation so it's easier
for the translators? I've used a online translator that returned this:
"Setting up Delta Chat couldn't be easier". Is it correct?
Thanks,
Enrico
Hello,
I don't understand why flatpak!?
This software is awful, it doesn't work or I didn't understand anything! Virtualbox, dosbox, or other interfaces are far ahead.
I'm happy to use archlinux, somebody put in on aur, it means no flatpak!

Hi together,
a small note in the German computer magazine c't made me aware of this "project": https://www.coi-dev.org/
I don't know to which extent this is relevant in the context of DeltaChat, but, in the case you haven't heard of it yet, it might be interesting.
Kind regards,
Johannes
Hello!
Considering the fact that Xenia is a Ukrainian, have you considered writing a post about DC on Habr? It is one of the most popular websites among both Ukrainian and Russian developers. I believe, it might increase the number of people involved in the project significantly.

Hello,
I installed via aur (archlinux) delta chat desktop v0.98.2.r10.g8a456f7-1, and have on a phone with replicant (from f-droïd) the 0.200 version.
On the desktop version I don't find the ability to delete definitively some contacts. I delete the chat, but when I click new chat it continues to propose the same contact, and there is not the ability to delete the contact like in the mobile version.
Otherwise it's really a nice work you done!!
