hi all,
after quite a lot of work from friedel and me as well as help
from link2xt and others i guess we can merge the async-imap branch
(after i figured out the last CI issues and tests pass):

The branch has already been used in some Android and iOS
dev testing, and i am using it. It still has some, hopefully
minor, issues but also resolves some blocking bugs that
resulted in unusable app states (not receiving messages).
This being said, the branch is hard to review at this point
as it has been used as an alternative master and there have
bee several partial reviews. I think it's time we merge this
and then figure out any issues and new releases from it.

it'd be great if you could point to the "not receiving messages" related
bugs if they've been reported, or to some related change-log bits: I've
collected in my "bug queue" some issues related to messages strangely
not showing up in the app even from accepted contacts, but I was waiting
to collect some more information before opening bug reports, as the
problems are strangely intermittent and I had in mind to collect the
whole mail headers + server logs and see if I could reproduce something.
Hopefully I could already purge something in the queue.

Hi Marco, all,
i've just tagged core-1.0.0-beta8 which now needs to be
integrated with desktop/android/ios -- after which we can
see what bugs/issues remain. There was a lot of bug reporting
in side channels (due to privacy sensitive logs/crash reports)
and a lot of asynchronous work from several devs. It's a bit
hard to know what issues remain now. If the new apps are available,
please open new crash/bug reports :)
